Instructions

  • Celebrate the birth of a new baby boy with this adorable card!
  • This card consists of several different small pieces, attached together at the end. First we'll outline what sizes we'll need of the papers listed:
    • #161-47 Long Cards - Vintage Blue: pre-cut at 4 1/4 x 11"
    • #835-069 Big Top Yellow Duet: 2 pieces:
      • 1 1/4 x 1 1/4"
      • 3 x 4 1/2"
    • #161-42 Long Cards - Apple Green: 2 pieces:
      • 1/2 x 5 1/2"
      • 1/2 x 1/2"
    • Watercolor paper: 2 1/4 x 4"
    • Xerox paper to make copy of dictionary page
  • Stamp Pea in a Pod in Granite Grey Designer Ink on the watercolor paper rectangle . It is handy to use Granite Grey to stamp soft images (like this baby card) because then the outline will not be so harsh and bold as one stamped in black. Grey is softer.
  • Watercolor in the baby in the pea pod with watercolor pencils. You can start with a light green and go back with a darker green watercolor pencil for the shadows on the pea and pea pod. Color in his little face with a flish colored pencil, and his rosy cheeks with a pink pencil. Don't forget to fill in the baby bird with a pale blue! When you're finished with this little guy, set him aside.
  • Fold your Vintage Blue rectangle into thirds, as shown:
  • Stamp polka dots all over the inside of the two outer segments, in whatever pattern you choose:
  • Punch holes and set blue eyelets about 1 3/4" up on either side of the outer two flaps, about 1/4" from the edge:
  • Attach the 1/2 x 5 1/2" piece of apple green cardstock to the bottom center segment of the inside of the card as shown:
  • Attach the 3 x 4 1/2" piece of Big Top Yellow Duet paper at an angle on top as shown (we sewed this piece on with white thread and a zig-zag stitch, at either side - this adds a nice texture). However you attach this piece, make sure to leave the top edge is unattached, because this is the pocket:
  • Attach the watercolor paper rectangle (that you finished in step 4) on top of the Big Top Yellow Duet paper at an angle, as shown:
  • Stamp "Giggles & Grins" from Q008 - "It's a Boy" Clearly Defined Set on Acid Free White Cardstock in Cornflower Blue Designer Ink. Cut out and attach (with two staples) as shown. Punch holes for and set three lime green eyelets, also as shown:
  • You are now all done with the inside of the card! Let's put this aside and work on the outside and insert for the card.
  • Stamp Starr in Daffodil Designer Ink on Acid Free White Cardstock, and cut into a 1 x 1" square.
  • Take your 1 1/4 x 1 1/4" square of Big Top Yellow Duet paper and layer on the front left segment on the outside of the card, above the eyelet. Layer your Starr square on top at an angle, as shown:
  • Stamp "Congratulations" from "It's a Boy" Clearly Defined Set in Cornflower Blue Designer Ink on Acid Free White Cardstock. Cut into a rectangle, 1/2 x 3", leaving plenty of room before the "C" to attach a 1/2 x 1/2" square of Apple Green cardstock. Punch and set a lime green eyelet (see sample at top of page).
  • Insert sheer lime green ribbon and baby blue gingham ribbon through "Congratulations" rectangle. Insert baby blue gingham through eyelet hole in left-hand 'door' of main card. Slip "Congratulations" rectangle down blue ribbon until it is flush with card.
  • At last - time for the tag! Stamp "Congratulations" and "on your new little bundle of boy!" from "It's a Boy" Clearly Defined Set in Cornflower Blue Designer Ink on the white country tag. Stamp Starr in Daffodil Designer Ink next to the words. Set aside.
  • Get out your Petite Metal Rim Tag, and stamp a polka dot in Cornflower Blue in the middle of the tag. Stamp "Joy" from "It's a Boy" Clearly Defined Set in Citrus Green Designer Ink on white cardstock, cut it out, and afix to the metal rim tag.
  • Loop the length of yellow ribbon through the hole in the white country tag (that you just finished stamping) and tie. Attach the metal rim tag with a metal safety pin.
  • Such a sweet and charming card will surely be included by the new mom in the baby book or scrapbook to be enjoyed for years to come!
